Film Review – Logan

Finally got around to watching Logan.  Disappointed I missed it when it was on at the cinema but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Logan certainly took me by surprise. I didn’t expect it to be quite so violent.  I’m a bit squeamish when it comes to graphic violence, or rather I’d prefer not to see it.  This seems to be the way of modern films and TV series’. But I did watch it and I did enjoy it and just squirmed a bit when adamantium claws went through someone’s head or throat.

Hugh Jackman has portrayed this character for a long time and I will miss him in this role. There is always hope though that Ryan Reynolds may convince him to join him in a future Deadpool movie (my fingers are crossed).  I think Hugh has always captured the gruffness of Wolverine while trying to hide a soft heart throughout all the films he has portrayed him in.

I was delightfully surprised when Professor X swore at Wolverine. Age comes to us all and can bring some nasty surprises. Patrick Stewart has always been one of my favourite actors and has a very varied portfolio and seeing him as an aged Professor X, while very sad, brought some light relief to the film and the fact that even “superheroes” cannot always win.  I do wonder how it came about that Wolverine became the Professor’s carer. (I’m afraid I’ve never read the graphic novels/comics).

Young Dafne Keen’s character was aggressive and when she fought was, I suppose, like a wild animal/wolverine.  She didn’t really have much to say but conveyed lots with her eyes.

As I said I really enjoyed this film, which was never slow or boring and had the right balance “comedy” to lighten up what I knew was coming at the end.  The ending was sad and I cried.  For me this is definitely a film I am buying to keep and re-watch.
